Scholarship amount and term
  • Each scholarship award is for the amount of $500 per year for a term of up to four years, not to exceed $2000 total.
  • The recipient must be enrolled in an accredited college or university with a disclosed major in agriculture, natural resource management, agri-business, veterinary science, animal husbandry, or related field.
  • The annual award will be dispersed directly to the appropriate school office at the beginning of each academic year (usually the fall term or semester).
Applicant Qualification
  • To apply the applicant must: (1) be a Lander County resident and enrolled in the senior class of a Lander County High School or an equivalent home school program approved by Lander County School District, or a Lander County resident enrolled in a requisite course of study at an accredited college or university; (2) have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in the courses required for graduation from High School, or earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 during college; and (3) be enrolled or have specific plans for enrollment in an accredited college or university for the purpose of earning a degree in one of the specified courses of study.
  • To maintain the scholarship, the student must maintain a good standing with full time student status in one of the required majors, and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Application Process
  • Completed applications, including the essay and references, must be submitted to the Lander County Conservation District office by 3:30 p.m. on specified date, to be announced.
  • Application forms are available through the counselors at the Battle Mountain and Austin High School and at the Lander County Conservation District office at 815 North Second Street, Battle Mountain, NV 89820.
Selection
  • Selection for the scholarship award will be based on information submitted in the application and by the references, and from the essay written by the applicant. Particular weight in the selection process will be given for: academic achievement in High School; the degree of expectation by the judges that the applicant will earn a degree in the major course of study; writing and organization skills demonstrated by the applicant in the application and through the statements of recommendation (references).
  • Preference will be given to high school seniors versus college students.
  • A panel of three judges selected by the Lander County Conservation District Supervisors will make selection. The judges' decision will be final.
  • The scholarship winner will be announced at the annual awards ceremony sponsored by the Lander County School District. If the winner is a college or university student, notice will be served through the mail.
Annual Reporting Requirements (Students' responsibility)

The following information must be submitted to the Lander County Conservation district office to maintain your scholarship.

  • Official transcript of grades submitted within 30 days from the end of each school year.
  • Evidence of enrollment, good standing, full time status, and major course of study for each term

This information must be sent directly to the Lander County Conservation District office from the office of admissions. It is the student's responsibility to make that arrangement.
