Sponsor Pesticide Applicator Workshops


Pesticide applicators interested in updating their training and knowledge are invited to attend the 2004 Pesticide Applicator Certification Schools and Licensee Workshops. The annual educational program, is sponsored by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) and the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDOA).

PESTICIDE APPLICATIORS TRAINING (PAT) SCHEDULE
  • Tuesday, Jan. 13, 8 a.m., to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 14, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Great Basin Community College, Room 108, Elko (Licensee Training Tuesday; Certification School and Exam, Tuesday and Wednesday).
  • Thursday, Jan. 15, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cooperative Extension Office, Humboldt County Fairgrounds, Winnemucca (Licensee Training Thursday; Certification School and Exam, Thursday and Friday).
  • Wednesday, Jan. 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 22, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Holiday Inn, 1,000 E. 6th St., Reno (Certification School and Exam, Wednesday and Thursday).
  • Tuesday, Jan. 27, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 28, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lindell Center, 2590 Lindell Rd., Las Vegas (Certification School and Exam, Tuesday and Wednesday).

Registration for the Elko and Winnemucca training will be conducted at the door, beginning at 7 a.m. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available at these sites for licensees.

Seating is limited at the Reno and Las Vegas sites, and pre-registration is required no later than Jan 2. No CEUs will be available at these sites for licensees.
Registration fees for all program sites are $30, covering refreshments and expenses. The certification exam costs an additional $25. A limited number of the Nevada Pesticide Applicator Training Guides will be sold at all sites for $15; however, these are available at UNCE and NDOA offices at any time. A limited number of scholarships are available after Dec. 19.

Topics to be covered in the workshops include pesticide laws, weed and pest identification and management, equipment calibration, integrated pest management strategies, pesticide labels and off-label misuses, plant diseases and the Food Quality Protection Act. Educators are from UNCE and NDOA.
